Woodland is halfway between San Francisco and the Bay Area to the west, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Gold Country. Places to visit include the Napa Valley Wine Country, Historical Old Sacramento, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, and many local museums, vineyards and parks.

A local landmark in Woodland is the historical Woodland Opera House, which is having a fundraising event on Saturday Night, 21st June. Take the opportunity to sample some of the local wines accompanied by food from Woodland Restaurants before continuing with entertainment inside. Visit the Activities page for more information.

Yolo County Visitors Bureau has many listings of local attractions, including local wineries, museums, and attractions in nearby towns. One of their special promotions running during the Show is the Sacramento River Train:

Boarding only 20 minutes from downtown Sacramento, the Sacramento River Train travels 28 miles through scenic farmland, along the Sacramento River and over the longest wooden trestle in the Western United States. The train offers a great combination of delicious food, fun entertainment, friendly service and affordable pricing.

Farms and Produce:

Capay Valley (30 minutes away) hosts many local organic farms.

Farmers Markets in both Woodland (Freeman Park, Main Street, 9am to 12pm Saturday and 5pm to 7pm Tuesday) and Davis (8am to 1pm Saturday and Picnic In The Park 4.30pm to 8.30pm Wednesday)


Wineries:

California is famous for it’s wines. Tours and tastings are available in Napa, Solano, Yolo, counties. Napa and Sonoma are in the next listing. Local highlights are Satiety Vineyards and Winery, R. H. Phillips Winery, Barryessa Gap Winery. Slightly further away, Clarksburg in south Yolo County boasts many fine wineries.


Sacramento: (30 minutes away)

Many nice restaurants and attractions in Old Sacramento and along the river.


Davis: (15 minutes away)

Lots to do including the Farmers Markets Wednesdays and Saturdays

University of California Davis - well known for its research in agriculture.

Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts

Winters: (25 minutes away)

Lovely restaurants and a great placeto visit for breakfast!
